Organizing GarageOrganizing the Garage &
Basement
Tidy your Garage and Basement
Organizing your home isn’t exactly an easy proposition,
actually it can be daunting. No other areas of the house are
more daunting than the garage and basement. These areas
typically become the junk rooms of most homes. If you go into
most people’s garages and basements you will probably see a
stack of boxes and piles of unwanted stuff. We all hate
throwing stuff away, but it’s something we really must do.
Once you’ve thrown away everything that you don’t want any more
you can start sorting through everything that you want to keep.
It’s a good idea to buy some containers to keep everything well
organized. These plastic boxes will also protect your
belongings from moisture and pests. When everything is
organized into your boxes you should then start cleaning the
space itself. Scrub the floors and walls before putting your
stuff back.
When you’re putting everything back it’s a good idea to try and
organize them into categories. When do you use them? Do they
get used at specific seasons? Are you storing baby items until
someone else in the family has a baby? Or are you just storing
things that you can’t bear to throw away. Sentimental things
can be stored in labeled boxes and tucked out of the way
because you won’t need access to them.
If you want to store things which you will need to access on a
regular basis then you should keep them where you can access
them easily. You can purchase a number of DIY units which can
be assembled to provide plenty of storage for your basement and
garage.
When you are deciding where to store things in your garage then
you should locate them depending on when you use it. You should
develop a system for moving round seasonal items so that they
are easily accessible when they are needed.
Over head storage shelves can be ideal storage solutions for
use in a garage, it’s important to make sure that these are
compatible with your garage door. You can organize your tools
on pegboards, these are great space savers and can make sure
all of your tools are easily accessible. This also helps to
de-clutter your workbench.
You can store nuts and bolts in baby jars, or shelves. Screw
the jar lids onto the shelf so that they aren’t easily knocked
off. You can then use these pots to store your screws, nails
and nuts and bolts. You will also have extra shelf space.
