Motivation to Improve Company Health

Motivation to Improve Company Health

Motivation is important when you're getting started in business.  It's also important as your business grows.  Keeping yourself and your employees motivated will keep your company healthy and allow it to flourish.

How Can I Keep Myself Motivated?

Different things motivate different people.  If you enjoy what you do, a certain amount of motivation will come naturally.  But there are additional measures you can take to keep yourself motivated.

* Set goals, and reward yourself for achieving them.  Goals give you concrete milestones to reach for.  Finding something that you want and using it for a reward once you reach a goal is a great motivational tool.

* Go to motivational seminars, watch motivational videos, and read motivational books.  There are plenty of motivation experts out there, and many successful people swear by their products.  If you're skeptical, borrow one from a friend or buy an inexpensive CD.  It's worth a try.

* Find motivational quotes that you can remember when the going gets tough.  Post them on your computer monitor or office wall for easy reference.  They can serve as a quick pick me up when you need it the most.

How Can I Keep My Staff Motivated?

Keeping your employees motivated is essential.  If you're motivated but your employees are not, it can lead to frustration and resentment on both parts.

* Offer rewards for a job well done.  These could come in the form of an Employee of the Month award, paid time off, cash prizes, or small gifts.  There's no need to spend a lot of money.  It is truly the thought that counts.

* Listen to what your staff has to say.  Employees who feel free to voice concerns and are taken seriously when they do are more likely to go the extra mile at work.

* Share the things that motivate you.  Putting up posters with motivational sayings, sending motivational quotes via email, or lending out your motivational videos could give your staff that extra nudge they need.  Employees often don't come out and tell you when they're lacking motivation, so little things like this might allow you to reach them when you don't even know they need it.

* Celebrate holidays and important company achievements.  This doesn't have to cost a lot of money, either.  A simple potluck dinner on company time is sufficient to foster company fellowship and increase motivation in most cases.  But if your staff has been instrumental in helping the company achieve something big, a special company-paid function might be in order.

When everyone is motivated, things tend to go more smoothly and your company grows and prospers.  By motivating and rewarding both yourself and your employees, you invest in the health of your company.
